How the police officer can check a headlight modulator meets d.o.t. requirements.

During the years we produced headlight modulators one of our prime concerns was about those on the market which weren't legal. When LED headlights were introduced we came out with a design meeting the d.o.t. requirements. Before long we discovered some unscrupulous people were selling a standard modulator and making a claim it was for LED lights. There's a good reason for the d.o.t. requirements. A larger concern was those riders who were too cheap to purchase the proper modulator and installed one designed for incandescent bulbs. This is a real NO NO! Riders told us they were doing this and didn't really care.

We gave some thought about designing something for a police officer to check the modulator operation but this could be costly. Recently it occurred to me we already had a simple solution. A simple demonstration video we'd made. So here's the solution we're offering free to those enforcing the law.

We want to help get illegal and unsafe equipment off the road.

Use your Smartphone to take a "slow motion" video of the motorcycle headlight modulator operation.
See instructions below:

Standard Modulator Operation
LED Modulator Operation
Use piece of dark colored plastic. Even better you
can use a light colored welding lens for viewing.
Note that the bulb essentially turns on and off.
After taking the "slow motion" video view it on your phone.
Use piece of dark colored plastic. Even better you
can use a light colored welding lens for viewing.
Note that the bulb turns on and partially off.
After taking the "slow motion" video view it on your phone.
Watch video of LED modulator.
If the bulb doesn't stay on then it's not legal.

The video can be used to support your case.
